Museum of aquatic sports
The museum of aquatic sports was founded in 1980, opened in 1990 and belongs to the foundation “Stadtmuseum <place w:st="on"><state w:st="on">Berlin</state></place>” since 1996. Teacher and today’s museum director Werner Philipp has disposed the collection and has conserved it over the years. The three exhibition rooms (300 m²) are located in two parts of the builing at historic regatta distances in Grünau where the Olympic competitions took place in 1936.
Visitors get a lot of information about German sports / aquatic sports in the former cashier’s area (exhibition I) as rowing and sailing are <country-region w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Germany</place></country-region>’s oldest sports. On the grandstand (exhibition II) visitors can find larger objects as f.e. boats and even stones from the German sports monument which was torn down in 1973. The exhibition mainly presents sports that are carried out in Grünau.
